Do you run out of time when sitting a mock GCSE Business (Edexcel) exam paper?
Would you like to write two sides of A4 less and not lose any marks?
The most common reason why students run out of time and do not manage to finish a GCSE Business (Edexcel) exam paper is that they repeat the question in the first sentence to their answer. This is not necessary and does not earn any marks.
The examiners have stated that if you repeat the question to introduce your answer in every question, you are writing an extra two sides of A4 for which you score no marks!
This is a typical explain question from the Edexcel June 2024 GCSE Business Paper 2:
Explain one advantage to a business of using just in time (JIT) stock control. |
A student may answer:
One advantage to a business of using just in time (JIT) stock control is that they would hold less stock. This means that the business would have less cash held in stock. Therefore, the business would have more cash available and improved net cash-flow.
‘One advantage to a business of using just in time (JIT) stock control…’ is unnecessary, wastes time and does not earn any marks.
This answer will score exactly the same number of marks:
The business would hold less stock. This means that the business would have less cash held in stock. Therefore, the business would have more cash available and improved net cash-flow.
The same answer, just not repeating part of the question at the start.
Remember there is no need or benefit to rewriting part of the question to introduce your answer. Save yourself time to spend earning marks elsewhere on the paper.
